Home Ownership Center

Where to start? The Homeownership Center staff will review your income, debt and credit information to determine your first step.

We offer services that prepare our clients for home ownership. We have a homebuyer education and counseling program, we offer down payment assistance, we provide access to low interest loans and, we build houses. We also have a credit-rebuilding program. It is our mission to help you become a homeowner.

The first step to enter our program is to attend a one-hour homebuyer orientation. At that meeting you learn everything you need to know about the services we provide. And you’ll have a chance to ask questions. If you decide to take the next step, you’ll fill out an application and pay $18.00 so we can pull your credit report. We use this information to design a homeownership program that’s tailored to your needs.

Once you have completed the registration paperwork a staff member will review your income, debt and credit information to determine which parts of our program would be best for your individual needs.

Common Questions

How do I qualify to buy a house?
Visit a housing counselor at a nonprofit organization. Owning a home requires a large investment of time, money and energy, so you should make your decision to buy a home carefully. Housing counselors certified through a HUD approved nonprofit agency provide objective advice and unbiased recommendations.

How much money will I need?

The down payment is the amount of cash you pay toward the purchase price. Closing costs are expenses over and above the purchase price of a home that you incur by financing and transferring ownership of the home. While normally both are expected to be paid up front, there are loan programs that allow you to borrow the down payment and closing costs, or at least part of them. Some nonprofit organizations and state or local government agencies can help you with down payment and closing costs through grant money or low-interest loans. The amount will vary for each household based on their buying power.
